This is a thread dedicated to the beginner forum user. If you have a question it is more than likely that this thread answers it so please check here before asking for help. Look at the list below and click on anything you need help with and you will be directed to the post that explains it. If you have an unanswered question PM me or any staff member and we will help you as soon as possible.

    1) How to Post

    2) How to set avatar, profile picture and signature

    3) How to include images in a post

    4) How to add a video to a post

    5) What is reputation and how can I give it?

    6) How to report a post/thread/Private Message/Visitor Message that is against the forum rules?

    7) How does the points system work and how do I earn them?

    8) Who are the staff of MistViper and what do they do?

    Short FAQ:

    1) Help my award is gone!??
    A) Awards are not pernament at this time. This means someone else can claim your award if they meet the requirements for that award and you no longer.

For example the activity award could have been awarded to you two weeks ago but your activity for which you gained the ward has gone down and someone else has become active enough to claim the award. You can always get it back ofc if you meet the requirements again.

    2) My post count is not changing?
    A) In all forums your post count will go up but in the introduction forum.

    How To Post:

It is extremely simple to post a new thread. Just go to whichever forum section you want to post in, and you will see a new thread button, hit that button and post your thread!

    New Thread: PostNewThread.png

At the bottom of a thread you will see a quick reply box in which you can type in, and just hit the submit quick reply. It is fairly simple, and there are some customizations that you can make with text color, size, layout etc. You can also add BB codes like a spoiler or strike through in the advanced reply (That picture is below the quick reply box). I did not show the box for the advanced reply as the only difference is there are more customizations above the reply box, but you guys can take a quick look and it's not hard to get the hang of!

    How To Set Avatar/Profile Picture/Signature:

First go to settings in the upper right hand corner of the screen (see spoiler below).

    Spoiler Spoiler:

Then you will see the panel below on the left hand side, simply click on whichever you want to edit and from there you can upload your avatar or profile picture and add a signature! Keep in mind that the maximum profile picture size is 160x160 pixels and the max avatar size is 120x120 pixels. If your image is bigger than that, it should automatically resize, but in the event that it does not please resize it yourself/ask help for resizing it or just choose another image. It's also noteworthy that the avatar shows up in your posts, while the profile picture is just for your profile page.

How to include images in a post

Posting images is pretty common on forums, and it's easy to do!

One way to get the [IMG] tags up is pressing the BBCode icon -

However, you can also just type the [IMG] tags.

    [img]http://oi42.tinypic.com/20hnckp.jpg[/img]

Please note: You can also post images via the attachments option when in full post mode.

Please note 2: When posting an image via URL, only URLS that will result in a posted image is if the URL is .jpg, .gif, .png, and .jpeg.

How to add a video to a post

If you ever want to share a video with other members, you can do so quite easily via our BBC.

As you will see upon clicking the Insert Video icon (and my poorly drawn square. I cri errytiem)

You will be told which video URLs are accepted on our forum. The accepted URLs are Youtube, Dailymotion, Hulu, Vimeo, Metacafe, Google, and FaceBook. In the "enter your video clip URL" box, paste the link and click ok.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oAdQzCq53XE

The tags that are used are

    [video]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oAdQzCq53XE[/video]

with the video URL being between them. Please note that depending on which host you use (Youtube, Dailymotion, etc) the tag needs to be [video=youtube]

What is reputation and how can I give it?

Reputation can be explained quite easily, as it's exactly how it sounds. Your forum reputation is a way of showing to the community that you're either a well respected person amongst the community, you provide a lot of support to users who need it, or you're just an all around good person to talk with. Reputation is given out for any of the previous reasons (if not all three). It's worth noting that in most cases, forum reputation is not used nearly enough. Just because a user may have no reputation does not mean they are a disliked person.

If you'd ever like to give out reputation, you can do so in the lower left portion of the user's post.

You can also view a user's reputation in their profile.

To see your own reputation, go into your UserCP/Settings.

You can spread 3 reputation points a day and can give again rep to the same user if you given a rep point FIRST to 5 others.

Who are the staff and what do they do?

The staff is a group of people dedicated to improving MistViper and keeping order around the forum. You can find the staff by clicking on the view forum leaders button at the bottom of the forum index page.

There are Administrators, a Lead Moderator, and Moderators. Administrators are the head of the forum, running mainly the back end which normal users cannot see, and they are responsible for adding new features to the forum. The Lead Moderator is in charge of the moderators, has all the duties a moderator does as well. Moderators keep the order in the forum and ensure that the rules are being followed at all times.
